The Complete Guide to Intuitive Colour Mixing with Acrylic Paints

This article will explore the basics of intuitive colour mixing and offer expert tips on how to use intuition and art to create a painting

Intuitive painting is a process of creating art without any preconceived idea or plan. The artist paints what they feel and see in the moment, rather than what they think should be painted.

Some artists believe that intuition is the most important aspect of creating art. It can be seen as a way of expressing oneself without having to worry about how others will perceive the work. This article will explore the basics of intuitive colour mixing with acrylic paints. It will also explain how to use intuition and art to create a painting.

What is Intuitive Painting and What are the Benefits of Painting this way?

Intuitive painting is a therapeutic and expressive arts technique that can be used to explore the subconscious. It is a new way of thinking about art and creativity. It aims to help people get in touch with their inner voice and intuition.

With intuitive painting, people don’t need to follow any rules or instructions. They just need to let their intuition guide them as they paint. This helps them get in touch with their inner self and express themselves without feeling like they are being judged.

The benefits of Intuitive Painting are the following:

- To allow the artist to work on his or her own terms, without having to follow any rules or preconceived notions

- To increase creativity and self-expression

- To reinforce positive feelings, such as joy, peace, love, and happiness

Tips for Beginners on Intuitive Painting

In the world of art, it is often said that there are no mistakes. What this means is that the painting process is not about achieving perfection but rather capturing a moment in time. There are many ways to paint intuitively, but the following tips can help you get started:

- Start with a blank canvas and let your intuition guide you.

Try not to think too much about what you want to create before you start painting. Follow your gut and just pick the first ‘delicious’ looking colour and paint a wash with it. Allow this colour to inspire the next one. You will find that once you get started, your creativity will come out naturally and all those thoughts will go away.

- Start with shapes and colours

Another easy way to start is to draw an object or identify the kind of shape that you would like to use. This needs to be done with sense of adventure and curiosity. Play with shapes and vary the sizes. From there, explore colors that work well together and experiment with different shades and intensities. Constantly ask yourself ‘what if I did this?’ or what if I tried that?’

- Always paint from the heart and don't overthink it. Instead let your emotions and skills flow naturally.

Creativity is important in any creative endeavor, but artists often find themselves overthinking the process. Instead of thinking too much about what they're doing, they should just get started and let their creativity guide them.

- Try painting with your non-dominant hand for an extra challenge!

Painting with your non-dominant hand is a great way to force yourself to step out of your comfort zone. It's a great way to learn something new and challenge yourself, but it also gives you the chance to see how difficult it can be to do things differently.

- Be open-minded to new ideas and don't be afraid to experiment with new paint colours, tools, and techniques.

A lot of people are either afraid to try something new, or don't want to spend the money on supplies. I'm not sure what's the cause of this fear - maybe it's the fear of failure. But you know what. When you fail, you also discover what doesn’t work. So, failure is a great teacher. So, experiment with new mediums (read the instructions first for safety reasons!). Try bubble wrap to print textures or swapping to palette knives instead of brushes or using both as opposed to just one tool. Have fun printing with vegetables. Vegetable printing is fun and it’s not a technique that’s meant for kids. You can use it too to create rich patterned paintings. This type of fun through art is meant for all and not just kids.
